MS Wrestlers Bring Home Championship From Clyde
The middle school Wrestlers sent a contingent to the Larry Norman Memorial Invitational in Clyde and brought home a Redskin Team championship. Wapakoneta pulled out to a lead in the semifinal round and finished ahead of runner-up McPherson MS (Clyde). The Redskins placed ten Wrestlers enroute to the tournament title.
Winning individual championships for the Skins were Crue Shaner at 86lbs, Cooper Cecil at 122, lbs, Darrian Steinbrunner at 134lbs, Channing Miller at 150lbs, and Andre Varno at 172lbs. Runner-up finishes were turned in by Bennett Bishop at 92lbs, Trey Williams at 142lbs, and Trevor Varno at 160lbs. Hank Walters turned in an impressive third place finish at 245lbs and Alton Spangler finished sixth at 150lbs.

Wrestlers Defeat Defiance in WBL Showdown
Looking to stay atop the WBL standings, the Wapak Wrestlers traveled to Defiance and handled business defeating the Bulldogs 42-30. The Redskins improve to 2-0 in league duals while Defiance drops to 1-1. The middle school Wrestlers continued their winning ways with a 60-23 win.

Redskins Advance to 3-0 in Duals; Defeat Indian Lake & Sidney
The varsity Wrestling team secured two more dual meet victories Thursday heading up to their Thursday Western Buckeye League showdown in Defiance against the Bulldogs. The Redskins defeated Indian Lake 52-20 and Sidney 50-25.
The middle school Wrestlers kept pace with the high school as they defeated the Lakers 61-15 and the Yellow Jackets 55-30.
Both teams travel to Defiance Thursday with middle school action starting at 5:00.

Redskins Finish 5th at 16 Team Firebird Classic
Shorthanded, the varsity Wrestlers traveled to Kettering and came away with a 5th place team finish at the Firebird Classic. Senior Caden Mellot (126lbs) brought home the lone individual championship, while junior Wyatt Buell (175lbs) finished runner-up. Other placers included sophomore Zane Russell third at 106lbs, freshman Brody Bishop 4th at 113lbs, and Sophomore Urijah Corday 5th at 120lbs.

Redskins Set to Host Celina in Season Opener
Come out Thursday to show your support for your Redskin Wrestlers as they host the Bulldogs of Celina in the season opener for each team. There will be plenty of action as the middle school Wrestlers will open up on mat 1 at 5pm, while the JV will start Wrestling on mat 2 at 6pm. Both will be followed by the varsity at approximately 7pm.

Orders should be available prior to Christmas. Pick up will be available at the Dan Davies Wrestling Complex unless otherwise coordinated through Lima Sporting Goods. Wrestling Season has Finally Begun
Today kicked off the 24-25 Wrestling season. Both the high school and middle school Wrestlers set foot on the mats today for their first official practice of the season. Wapak Kids Wrestlers have their first practice on the 19th. Numbers are trending upward at all three levels of Wrestling which shows the overall health and strength of the program, as well as support from the community. The number of female Wrestlers is growing exponentially, and it is only a matter of time before we see a recognized all ladies Wrestling squad. The first match of the season is currently scheduled as home WBL dual meet with Celina on December 5th. That match may be rescheduled due to the football team competing 3 weeks into the post season.

June 29th: One Day Camp at the Wrestling Complex
Wapak Wrestlers in grades 3-12, or with at least one year experience, are invited to attend a one day camp on June 29th at the Dan Davies Wrestling Complex. The featured clinician will be 3X Ohio Northern All-American Jacob Reed. He will be assisted by a handful of current Ohio Northern wrestlers.
There will be two sessions 9-11am and 12-1pm. Cost is just $10 and may be paid at the door during registration. Pack a lunch to eat between sessions.

Wapak Wrestlers Putting in Extra Mat Time
While the high school, junior high, and Wapak Kids regular season matches came to an end about a month ago, there is no shortage of Wapakoneta Wrestlers setting their sights on next season and putting in the extra work that makes Champions. Several wrestlers have been wrestling in open tournaments, hitting open mats, and practicing with high end wrestling clubs like Beast Mode, CPWA and Conquest Wrestling.
Just a small sample of the many Wapak Wrestlers who competed in the 16th Annual Wrestle Against Autism Tournament in Urbana today.
Crue Shaner placed first at the Spatola Classic on March 30th.

Junior High Wrestlers Compete at OAC State: Shaner Places 8th
Eight Wapak Middle School Wrestlers wrapped up their season this weekend in Youngstown. Of those that had qualified for the Ohio Athletic Committee State Tournament, seventh grader, Crue Shaner, came away with the top Redskin finish by placing 8th in the 74lb weight class. Shaner dropped his opening match but bounced back to reel off four straight wins to secure his spot on the podium. Congratulations to all of the Redskins who qualified and competed against the best junior high wrestlers in the state.

Jace Knous, Division II State Runner-up
Redskin Senior Jace Knous closed out a stellar senior season campaign in impressive fashion this weekend by finishing runner-up in the 215lb Division II State Championship finals. After winning three consecutive bouts, Knous squared off against Columbus St. Francis Desales senior Max Shulaw. Shulaw, a Virginia wrestling commit, came into the match as a three-time state placer, two-time finalist, and as the defending State Champion sporting a a 48-1 record. Trailing just 2-0 after the first period, Knous was unable to escape Shulaw's leg ride and lost by fall midway through the second period.Knous finished the season with a 34-4 record. Roughriders Get First State Champion
Saint Marys junior Tate Hisey pinned Indian Valley's Leroy Steagall three minutes into the 126lb finals match to become the Roughriders first State Champion. Hisey finished the season with a 44-2 record. Teammate Bo Hertenstein came up just short in his Championship match, losing a hard fought battle with Steubenville's Brody Saccoccia 13-9. He finished his junior season 40-4.
Area Wrestlers Finish on Podium
Several other area grapplers wrestled their way to a top eight finish and a spot on the podium. Mason Ducat of Defiance finished 8th at 132lbs, Delphos St. John's Edward Kessen finished 7th at 138lbs, Allen East freshman Jordan Neal placed 5th at 144lbs, and Celina's Zach Greber finished 7th at 144lbs.

Knous to Wrestle for Championship; Two Roughriders in Finals
Wapakoneta Senior Jace Knous won his quarterfinal and semi-final match on Saturday to advance to Sunday's 215lb Division II State Championship match. Knous's defeated Clinton Massie's Elijah Grow by tech-fall in the quarterfinal round. His semifinal match was more challenging as he needed a late takedown and back points to knock off Chardon's Bryce Wheatley 12-8 securing his finals match. Knous will face Columbus Saint Francis Desales senior Max Shulaw in the Championship match. Sophomore Wyatt Buell dropped his quarterfinal match to Woodridge Senior Steven Duffy by a score of 7-3. Duffy advanced to the Championship match. In his consolation match, Buell lost to Beaver Local senior Gabe Morgan via 5-2 decision.
Saint Marys juniors Tate Hisey and Bo Hertenstein each advanced to the Championship match, giving the Western Buckeye League an impressive showing. Hisey, 126lbs, defeated Logan Elm junior Gavin Hoover by a 2-1 decision before knocking off Louisville senior Kolten Barker by a score of 5-3. Hertenstein, 144lbs, knocked off Luke Kaiser of Athens 8-3 in the quarters, and beat Braxden Martin of Sandusky Perkins 5-0 to earn his spot in the Championship. He will square up against Steubenville junior Brody Saccoccia for a shot at a State Championship.
Other area wrestlers advancing to the placement matches in Division II include Celina's Zach Greber, 144lbs, and Defiance junior Mason Ducat, 132lbs, who will wrestle for 7th place. In Division III, Allen East freshman Jordan Neal, 144lbs, is wrestling in the consolation semifinals and can finish no worse than 6th place. Saint John sophomore Edward Kessen will wrestler for 7th at 138lbs.

Buell and Knous Win, Advance to Quarters: Area Wrestlers Move On
Redskin sophomore Wyatt Buell and senior Jace Knous each won their opening round match-up at the State Wrestling championships to move onto Saturday morning's quarterfinal round. Buell, 175lbs, defeated Ben Logan's Kameron Larson 5-1 in the first round. He will face Woodridge senior Steven Duffy in the quarterfinals. Knous had no trouble in his opener. He defeated Kartyr Armstrong of Warren by a first period fall. He will face senior Elijah Groh of Clinton Massie in the quarters.
Several other area wrestlers advanced to day two action. in Division II, Saint Marys juniors Tate Hisey, 126lbs, and Bo Hertenstein, 150lbs, each advance to the Championship quarterfinals winning by fall. Defiance Junior Mason Ducat won a close 5-4 match to advance to the quarters. Kenton's Anthony Hunt, 157lbs, lost his opening match by a 5-0 decision but rebounded in the consolation bracket with a 5-4 win to move on to day two. Celina Senior Zach Greber lost a tough 3-1 match in sudden victory at 144lbs but rebounded with an 8-2 decision to advance. in Division III, Versailles' 113 pounder Trey Huber lost his opener but bounced back with a major decision to advance. Teamate Michael Osborne, 175lbs, advanced in the Championship round with a 9-0 major decision. Coldwater Senior Austin Hamilton split his matches to move on in the consolation bracket. Delphos St John sophomore Edward Kessen, 138lbs, opened the tournament with a heartbreaking ultimate tiebreaker loss, but won his next consi match 8-3 to stay alive. Allen East freshman Jordan Neal, 144lbs, advanced with an opening round first period pin, while teammate Brogan Paxson split his opening day matches to move on to day two.
Elida Senior Skyler Kirk, 138lbs, dropped his two bouts and was eliminated, as was Versailles' freshman Trent Huber, 106lbs. Allen East senior Trenton Gatchell dropped two close decisions at 157. Columbus Grove teammates Kyle Lathrop, 165lbs, and Loudon Auchmuty, 190lbs, were eliminated on day one.

MS Wrestlers Qualify 8 for OAC State Tournament
Sunday at Vandalia Butler, twelve Redskin Wrestlers competed for a top six District finish and the State qualification that comes with it. Eight wrestlers achieved their goal and qualified for the Ohio Athletic Committee State Tournament. The OAC State Tournament will be held at the Covelli Center in Youngstown on March 16-17.

Buell and Knous Advance to OHSAA DII State Tournament
The streak continues. Sophomore Wyatt Buell and Senior Jace Knous each qualified for next weekend's State Wrestling Tournament, and in doing so, made it 32 consecutive years that one or more Redskins have qualified for the tournament. The top four place winners in each weight class of the Norwalk District will compete at the Schottenstein Center beginning on March 8th.
Buell and Knous each went 4-1 on the weekend and brought home 3rd place finishes. Buell's only loss was to the eventual 175lb champion, Andrew Barford of Columbus St. Francis Desales. Knous's only loss was to another champion Max Shulaw, also of Desales at 215lbs. Senior Reece Schnarre went 3-2 and placed 5th at 165lbs while Sophomore Gavin Ridenhour went 2-3 placing 6th at 132lbs. Other Redskins competing included Freshmen Zane Russell (106, 2-2), Carson Pummell (113, 0-2), Sophomore Brody Presar (190, 2-2), and Juniors Caden Mellot (120, 2-2) and Dawson Ware (157, 1-2).
Other Western Buckeye League wrestlers who qualified for the State Tournament include Saint Marys' Tate Hisey (126) and Bo Hertenstein (150), Defiance's Mason Ducat (132), Elida's Skyler Kirk (138), Celina's Zack Greber (144), and Kenton's Anthony Hunt (157).
Celina's Kenzie Miracle qualified for the State Tournament with a 4th place finish in the 105lb weight class at the Marysville regional.

MS Wrestlers Place 3rd at OAC State Duals

The Wapakoneta Middle School Wrestling Team finished 3rd at the Ohio Athletic Committee State Duals Sunday, held at Olentangy High School. The Redskins defeated Ashland 45-31 in a back and forth match to start the day off. In round 2 the Skins lost to Medina Highland 49-43 in an exciting dual that wasn't decided until the final match. Wapak then had their way with an undermanned Sheridan squad in round 3 before defeating Carrollton 63-24 in the 3rd place match.
Going 4-0 on the day for the Redskins were Graham Moyer and Cooper Cecil. Finishing 3-1 were Brody Bishop, Gauge Vaughn, and Channing Miller.
Next up for the MS Wrestlers is the OAC District Tounament at Vandalia Butler this Sunday.

Redskins Advance 9 to Norwalk District; Team Finishes 3rd
The Wapakoneta High School Wrestling finished 3rd out of at 11 teams at the OHSAA Defiance Sectional. Redskin Wrestlers advancing to next weekend's District Tournament at Norwalk include: Seniors Reece Schnarre and Jace Knous, Juniors Caden Mellott and Dawson Ware, Sophomores Gavin Ridneour, Wyatt Buell, and Brody Presar, and Freshmen Zane Russell and Carson Pummell. The top 4 Placers in each weight class advance.
Knous had no problems cruising to the 215lb Championship. He register two Tech Falls and a Pin on his way to the title. Russell lost a tough championship match to Carter Stuckey of Wauseon to finish runner-up. Mellott dropped his finals match to Napoleon's Alex Gonzalez to finish Runner-up. Mellott has beat Gonzalez twice previously this season. Schnarre, Buell and Ridenour each bounced back from disappointing semi-final matches to take third. Pummell, Ware and Presar, each finished fourth.

Skins Take WBL Title: Set Sights on Post-Season
Saturday, in Kenton, the Redskin Wrestlers were crowned outright Western Buckeye League Champions. Led by six individual Champions, the Skins received contributions from all of its competing wrestlers. Freshman Zane Russell, Junior Caden Mellott, Sophomores Gavin Ridenhour and Wyatt Buell, along with Seniors Reece Schnarre and Jace Knous paced the Redskins by winning their weight class. Sophomore Brody Presar made it to the Championship match and Junior Dawson Ware brought home a 4th place finish.
The Redskins will now set their sights on qualifying for the OHSAA State Tournament. They will travel to Defiance on Saturday for the Sectional Tournament. The top four Placers in each weigh class qualify for the District Tournament. Go Skins!

The Varsity Wrestling Team finishes the WBL dual meet season with a 9-0 record.
The Wapakoneta Wrestling Teams traveled to Celina for the final WBL matchup of the season, and both squads came away with impressive victories. On a night where most of the barnburner matches went the Redskin's way, the middle school matmen knocked off the Bulldogs 42-28 while the varsity defeated the hosts 48-27. With the victories, both squads finish their WBL dual meet season undefeated. They varsity, already clinching the dual meet portion of the WBL Championship, will look to capture an outright WBL title at the league tournament this Saturday at Kenton. The middle school wrestling team will send a contingent to Vandalia Butler to compete in the OAC Districts and an opportunity to qualify for the OAC State Tournament.

Redskins Head to Final WBL Dual Undefeated with Win Over Bath
Both the high school and middle school wrestling squads handled WBL foe Bath on Thursday night setting up the season finale on Tuesday at Celina. The varsity defeated a shorthanded Bath squad 66-15 with only four contested matches. The middle school matmen were able to win six of eight contested matches and went on to post a 71-10 victory.

MS Wrestlers Finish 4th at Elida Invitational
After winning tournament championships at Clyde, Bucyrus and Shawnee, along with a runner-up finish at their own Wapakoneta Invitational, the middle school Wrestling Team could not replicate those performances at Elida. The Redskins finished in 4th place out of the 19 team filed. Crue Shaner (80lbs) and Channing Miller (134lbs) wrestled their way to the top of the podium. Finishing runner-up were Brody Bishop (92lbs) and Darrian Steinbrunner (122lbs).

Redskin Wrestlers Defeat Bulldogs
The Redskin Wrestlers took to the road and traveled to Elida for a league matchup. Both the high school and middle school squads came away victorious. In doing so, both teams remain undefeated in WBL dual meets.
The middle school Wrestlers opened the night with a 59-14 victory and the high school Wrestlers capped it off with a 58-13 victory over the host Bulldogs.
The middle school will make the short trip back to Elida on Saturday for their invitational. Wrestling will begin at 10:00 AM at the fieldhouse. Also on Saturday, the high school will travel to Columbus St. Francis Desales to attempt to qualify for the OHSAA State Dual Meet Tournament.

Wrestlers Knock Off Kenton
The high school and middle school Wrestling Teams took to the road Thursday night for a Western Buckeye League match-up with Kenton. Both teams entered the night at less than full strength, but were able to handle the host Wildcats. The high school moved to 6-0 in WBL duals with a 61-18 win and sit atop the league standings.
The middle school Wrestlers also kept their perfect dual meet record intact with a 45-16 win over Kenton.

Redskins Claim Title: Buell Outstanding Wrestler
The high school Wrestling team hosted the Wapakoneta Invitational Saturday and when the dust settled, it was the Redskins who claimed the team title in the 13 team field. Winning individual titles were Zane Russel (106lbs), Wyatt Buell (175lbs), Brody Presar (190lbs) and Jace Knous (215lbs). The hosts edged out runner-up Vandalia Butler who claimed six individual titles.
Sophomore Wyatt Buell was voted the Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament. The 175-pounder went 5-0 on the day with three pins and a pair of decisions. Buell defeated WBL foe Luke Lazarich of Celina 5-0 in the championship match.

Caden Mellot notched his 100th varsity win on his way to runner-up at 120lbs. Mellott placed 6th at last season's State Tournament.

Wrestlers Defeat Shawnee to Remain Unblemished in WBL
The varsity Wrestling took another step towards their WBL championship goal by besting Shawnee on Senior Night. Prior to the match the Redskins recognized their four Seniors, Jace Knous, Jamie Martinez, Reece Schnarre, and Zach Steinke. Once the festivities concluded, the Redskins put on an impressive performance and defeated the Indians 58-14.

Redskin Wrestlers Have Successful Weekend on the Mat
Both the High School and Middle School Wrestling teams put together impressive performances on the mat this weekend. The high school matmen finished with a 7-2 record and 3rd place finish in the Napoleon Gold Medal Duals. The Redskins defeated WBL foe Defiance 44-30, Liberty Benton 45-31, Anthony Wayne 61-18, Bucyrus 59-19, Fairview (Sherwood) 69-6, Normandy 68-12, and Versailles 42-30. They were defeated by Genoa 47-26 and Napoleon 42-20. Going undefeated on the weekend for the Skins were Cayden Mellott, Brody Presar, and Wyatt Buell. Complete match results are available here.
The Junior High matmen brought home gold at the Shawnee JH Wrestling Championships. The Redskins finished atop the leader board with 234 points, followed by Versailles with 217 and Defiance with 188 points. Bringing home individual championships were Crue Shaner (80lbs), Hans Sammetinger (98lbs), Gauge Vaughn (128lbs), and Channing Miller (134lbs). Runners-up for the Skins were Brody Bishop (92lbs) and Lane Fisher (142lbs).

Redskins Remain Perfect in WBL Duals After Van Wert Victory
The varsity Wrestling team defeated Van Wert Thursday by a 42-26 margin, keeping them atop the WBL dual meet standings. The Redskins took 8 of 14 matches to defeat the Cougars in front of a nice sized home crowd. Recording wins for Wapak were Zane Russell (106), Caden Mellott (120), Gavin Ridenour (132), Zach Steinke (138), Reece Schnarre (165), Wyatt Buell (175), Brody Presar (190) and Jace Knous (215). The Junior High Wrestlers also defeated the Cougars by a 51-15 margin.
The HS will travel to Napoleon this Friday and Saturday to participate in the Gold Medal Duals. The Middle School Grapplers will travel to Shawnee to compete in the Shawnee Junior High Wrestling Championships.

The Middle School Wrestling team finished Runner-up in their 14-team invitational Saturday. The Redskins were able to put 16 Wrestlers on the podium with 3 individual Champions. Crue Shaner moved his record to 17-0 on the season with 2 pins and a major decision on his way to the title at 80lbs. Bentley Ruck brought home gold at 116lbs by going 5-0 on the day. At 128lbs, Gauge Vaughn pinned his way through 5 matches to take his weight class. Making the Championship match and finishing runner-up for the Redskins were Brody Bishop (92lbs), Hans Sammetinger (98lbs), Cooper Cecil (104lbs), and Darrian Steinbrunner (122lbs). It marks the third year in a row that Versailles has outscored the host Redskins to claim the crown. The Tigers finished the day with 13 total placers including Champions Reece Magoteaux (92lbs), Isaac Batty (122lbs), and Hunter Wise (245lbs).

Redskins Stay Perfect in WBL Duals
The High School and Middle School Wrestling team's records remain unblemished in Western Buckeye League dual meet matches after a sweep of the Roughriders in their home gym. The MS Wrestlers started the night off in dominating fashion by winning 11 of the 13 contested weight classes, all by pin. The HS match was not decided nearly as early as both teams battled tooth and nail. The Redskins would eventually come away with a 42-33 win after winning 8 of 14 matches.
The MS Team will host a 15-team tournament this Saturday at the high school. Wrestling will begin at 9:00AM. Both the MS and HS will host Van Wert on Thursday with wrestling beginning at 5:00PM

HS and MS Wrestlers Sweep Tri
The High School and Middle School Wrestling Teams traveled to Indian for a non-league tri-meet between the host Lakers and the Yellow Jackets of Sidney. HS and MS matches were wrestled concurrently on two different mats.
When the dust settled, both squads came away victorious against both of their opponents. The MS grapplers defeated Indian Lake 47-45 in an exciting back and forth match. They also came out on top of Sidney 54-28. The HS matmen knocked off Indian lake in the opener 44-31 and defeated Sidney 55-30.
Both teams will be in action over the Christmas break. The High School competes in the 2-day Greater Miami Valley Wrestling Tournament held at Vandalia Butler on December 27-28. The Middle School travels to Bucyrus for a pool tournament on 28 December.

Team Store Wearables Available for Pickup
Just in time for Christmas, wearables purchased through our Lima Sporting Goods Team Store will be available for pickup this Wednesday and Thursday.
Items will be available Wednesday, December 20th, in the Middle School Cafeteria from 5-6PM. Thursday, December 21st will also have items available for pickup. Hours for Thursday will be 6:30-8PM at the Dan Davies Wrestling Complex.

MS Grapplers Bring Home Championship From Clyde
The Middle School Wrestling Team wrestled their way to a first-place finish at the 20 team Larry Norman Memorial MS Wrestling Tournament held at Clyde High School. The championship was a true Team effort as all point earning Wrestlers contributed to the team's point total. The Team was led by individual Champions Crue Shaner (80lbs) and Bentley Ruck (116lbs). Ruck recorder five pins enroute to his Championship.

Redskins Move to 2-0 in WBL
The High School and Middle School Wrestling Teams both improved to 2-0 in dual meets on the season with wins over Ottawa Glandorf on Thursday night. The middle school Wrestlers won five of the seven contested matches and went on to win by a margin of 69-12. For complete MS results, click here.
